{"id":2506,"date":"2015-01-25T17:06:09","date_gmt":"2015-01-25T17:06:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/luigipignatiello.com\/blog\/?p=2506"},"modified":"2015-01-25T23:26:01","modified_gmt":"2015-01-25T23:26:01","slug":"how-to-quad-boot-windowslinuxyosemitemavericks-shared-data","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/luigipignatiello.com\/blog\/?p=2506","title":{"rendered":"How to Quad Boot Windows\/Linux\/Yosemite\/Mavericks + Shared Data"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"video-container\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Quad Boot Windows 8.1\/Linux Fedora\/ Mac OS X Yosemite(El Capitan)\/Mac OS X Mavericks + Shared Data\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FLf8v_BOuAE?feature=oembed&#038;wmode=opaque\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Quad Boot Windows 8.1\/Linux Fedora\/ Mac OS X Yosemite\/Mac OS X Mavericks + Shared Data<\/p>\n<p>I have modified my laptop HP Probook 4540s with:<br \/>\n&#8211; Two hard drive<br \/>\n&#8211; Four operative systems (windows\/linux\/yosemite\/mavericks) + one shared data partition<br \/>\n&#8211; Five partitions total<br \/>\n&#8211; 8 gig Ram<\/p>\n<p>Disclaimer: All modifications made to the machine were made using free resources on the web and for testing and development purposes only.<\/p>\n<p>You will need:<br \/>\n&#8211; a SATA 2nd HDD caddy for 12.7mm Universal CD\/DVD-ROM<br \/>\n<a class=\"yt-uix-redirect-link\" dir=\"ltr\" title=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/SANOXY\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/SANOXY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/SANOXY<\/a>\u00ae-caddy-12-7mm-Universal-DVD-ROM\/dp\/B005<wbr><\/wbr>\u00ad6EW4A4\/ref=lh_ni_t?ie=UTF8&amp;psc=1&amp;<wbr><\/wbr>\u00ad;smid=A2RH0PPBO40JAD<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; a compatible wifi card (Atheros AR5BHB92 802.11) as the one installed on the laptop by default, does not work with mac<br \/>\n<a class=\"yt-uix-redirect-link\" dir=\"ltr\" title=\"http:\/\/www.tonymacx86.com\/hp-probook\/94550-hp-probook-4540s-replacement-wifi-guide-ar9280-atheros.html\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tonymacx86.com\/hp-probook\/94550-hp-probook-4540s-replacement-wifi-guide-ar9280-atheros.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">http:\/\/www.tonymacx86.com\/hp-probook\/&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Please Work with one hard drive at a time.<\/p>\n<p>Ready to go:<\/p>\n<p>For the first hard drive I have used a 750 gig HD with a rotational speed of 7200 RPM.<br \/>\nI have created four partitions (three for the different operative systems plus one for sharing data).<br \/>\n(Please note: I have found install Mac OS X yosemite on some SSD hard drive being problematic, due to Apple removal of Trim support for third-party SSD<br \/>\n<a class=\"yt-uix-redirect-link\" dir=\"ltr\" title=\"http:\/\/www.tweaktown.com\/news\/41095\/apple-removes-trim-support-for-third-party-ssds-with-os-x-update\/index.html\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tweaktown.com\/news\/41095\/apple-removes-trim-support-for-third-party-ssds-with-os-x-update\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">http:\/\/www.tweaktown.com\/news\/41095\/a&#8230;<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>I have used Clover Boot Loader and Clover Configurator to create an USB with which to create 4 different partitions (one mac os extended (journaled) for MAC, and three Fat 32 for Windows, Linux, and Shared data) and then I have installed Mac OS X Yosemite:<br \/>\n<a class=\"yt-uix-redirect-link\" dir=\"ltr\" title=\"http:\/\/www.tonymacx86.com\/hp-probook-yosemite\/143675-guide-install-yosemite-hp-laptops-clover-uefi.html\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tonymacx86.com\/hp-probook-yosemite\/143675-guide-install-yosemite-hp-laptops-clover-uefi.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">http:\/\/www.tonymacx86.com\/hp-probook-&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>With the same guide I have installed Windows UEFI as dual Boot.<\/p>\n<p>Remember: You need to install ntfs.efi driver in clover configuration to boot into windows from bootloader<\/p>\n<p>Then I have Installed Linux Fedora 21 workstation. I made a Fedora bootable USB<br \/>\n<a class=\"yt-uix-redirect-link\" dir=\"ltr\" title=\"https:\/\/fedoraproject.org\/wiki\/How_to_create_and_use_Live_USB\" href=\"https:\/\/fedoraproject.org\/wiki\/How_to_create_and_use_Live_USB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">https:\/\/fedoraproject.org\/wiki\/How_to&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This guide can also help you<br \/>\n<a class=\"yt-uix-redirect-link\" dir=\"ltr\" title=\"http:\/\/www.dedoimedo.com\/computers\/dual-boot-windows-8-ubuntu.html\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dedoimedo.com\/computers\/dual-boot-windows-8-ubuntu.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">http:\/\/www.dedoimedo.com\/computers\/du&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Be sure you do not delete the other 2 partitions when installing Fedora.<\/p>\n<p>If you CANNOT see the boot loader after installed Fedora: boot from your Mac USB, get to Yosemite, run Clover configuration, Install EFI and check that the EFI has all the boot packages (windows, apple, fedora)<\/p>\n<p>Also remember to replace the Wi Fi card in order to be able to connect to internet:<br \/>\n<a class=\"yt-uix-redirect-link\" dir=\"ltr\" title=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Fm6im8x_k5M\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Fm6im8x_k5M\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Fm6im&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once you have the first drive working properly:<\/p>\n<p>Replace the first hard drive with a 2nd hard drive. I have used a SSD HD 516 gig. Solid State Hard Drives boot faster and offer better performances than the standard rotational HD.<br \/>\n<a class=\"yt-uix-redirect-link\" dir=\"ltr\" title=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=FT5Niii5a30\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=FT5Niii5a30\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=FT5Ni&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>On the second HD I have installed Mavericks<br \/>\nusing this guide:<br \/>\n<a class=\"yt-uix-redirect-link\" dir=\"ltr\" title=\"http:\/\/www.tonymacx86.com\/hp-probook-mavericks\/112380-guide-installing-mavericks-hp-probook.html\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tonymacx86.com\/hp-probook-mavericks\/112380-guide-installing-mavericks-hp-probook.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">http:\/\/www.tonymacx86.com\/hp-probook-&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>When also the second Hard drive works fine,<\/p>\n<p>Replace it with the original, first, hard drive and add the 2nd Hard drive by replacing your DVD Optical Drive with the HHD Caddy case<br \/>\n<a class=\"yt-uix-redirect-link\" dir=\"ltr\" title=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=z9EewzcS2ys\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=z9EewzcS2ys\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=z9Eew&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once both Hard drives are mounted boot from Mac OS X yosemite<br \/>\nand with Clover Configurator install EFI configuration one more time from the main (the triple booted) drive.<\/p>\n<p>I also suggest to upgraded the Ram with 4 gig more<br \/>\n<a class=\"yt-uix-redirect-link\" dir=\"ltr\" title=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=7CULeEz1Cc8\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=7CULeEz1Cc8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=7CULe&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Hope all this will help !
